Conversational Blogs Tend to Be Successful
January 23, 2007
One of my biggest pet peeves when visiting other blogs is when you take the time to leave a comment and you don’t get a reply. I know sometimes the blogger may overlook a comment but when you notice it isn’t just you but that the blogger doesn’t acknowledge anybody. Forming a dialogue is important. Ever go to a blog and you feel you are being lectured? Well blogging doesn’t end when you click publish on your new post. It may actually never end. I have had people land on posts I wrote 3 months ago, 6 months ago… and even a year ago.
This is the same idea in real life. Look at some of the best teachers out there. They don’t just stand up in front of the class and preach their stuff. Well maybe there are a few out there but I have yet to meet one. I look back at college and remember my professors. The ones I learned the most from and enjoyed their class were the ones that kept dialogue open. Students were always raising their hands and asking questions.
So if you like to write articles but aren’t interested in engaging in conversation then you may want to shut off your comments section. But I guarantee you won’t get much attention unless you are already somebody big and famous like Hillary Clinton.

I couldn’t agree with you more!
Nice looking blog you have. Is that German??
Thank you. It’s Dutch actually.
That’s useful. Thanks for that food for thought.
