The 10 Commandments of Blogging

January 23, 2007

I was going to write up something I thought was a unique idea. I was in the middle of writing the 10 Commandments of Blogging when it dawned on me that this had to be out there on the blogosphere somewhere. So after I wrote Thou shalt not about 3 times I did a Google search to see what I could find. There were many 10 Commandment lists but I could only retrieve five that were legit. These are the Top 5 Ten Commandments of Blogging lists I found:

The 10 Commandments of Blogging by Samantha Burns.
The 10 Commandments of Blogging posted at the top of The Monitor’s blog.
The 10 Commandments of Blogging by ThinkHammer Blog.
The 10 Commandments of Blogging by Mommy off the Record.
The 10 Commandments of Blogging by Technology Info Today.

Conversational Blogs Tend to Be Successful

January 23, 2007

One of my biggest pet peeves when visiting other blogs is when you take the time to leave a comment and you don’t get a reply. I know sometimes the blogger may overlook a comment but when you notice it isn’t just you but that the blogger doesn’t acknowledge anybody. Forming a dialogue is important. Ever go to a blog and you feel you are being lectured? Well blogging doesn’t end when you click publish on your new post. It may actually never end. I have had people land on posts I wrote 3 months ago, 6 months ago… and even a year ago.

This is the same idea in real life. Look at some of the best teachers out there. They don’t just stand up in front of the class and preach their stuff. Well maybe there are a few out there but I have yet to meet one. I look back at college and remember my professors. The ones I learned the most from and enjoyed their class were the ones that kept dialogue open. Students were always raising their hands and asking questions.

So if you like to write articles but aren’t interested in engaging in conversation then you may want to shut off your comments section. But I guarantee you won’t get much attention unless you are already somebody big and famous like Hillary Clinton.
