There Are Many Reasons We Blog
January 22, 2007
Chris Garret of Performancing poses the big question. Why Do You Blog? There are many reasons that vary from blogger to blogger as to why we blog. Chris writes:
In my experience there are many reasons people blog …
* Personal diary/journal
* I just like writing
* money
* fame/attention
* sales
* get a new job
* make friends/network
* ….
Well, I am going to attempt to answer the question as to why I blog. I have a few blogs and each of them are for a different reason. To clump them all together I find that I blog as an outlet. I blog because I like to write. I blog because I can make some money doing it. I blog to promote my business. And lastly I blog because it is just too damn fun. Why do you blog?
Blogging and Podcasting Book
January 20, 2007
Ted Demopoulos, consultant, author, and blogger for Blogging for Business just sent me a copy of his new book called What No One Ever Tells You About…. Blogging And Podcasting. I got a chance to sit down for a little bit and read through it.
The way the book is laid out is it draws in information and advice Ted has collected from several bloggers, including myself when I was blogging over at why my blog stinks. One of the reasons I am not blogging there anymore is the blog was hacked into and some of the issues I ignored on a technical level had long term effects. But I don’t think it was the hacking attempt, as it was only an attempt, because I was able to salvage my content. But during that time I was blogging about parenting, as I am a dad of soon to be 5 kids, and keeping my business blogs regarding hunting and fishing kept up. So I let that site slide for now.
This site is my new venture to include some of the topics I have been eager to blog about. It will include content that appeared at Why My Blog Stinks, but maybe not necessarily from a stinky standpoint. For those who visited my blog in the past know what I am talking about.
But back to Ted. In his book I have written on Chapter 47, five mistakes I feel are common amongst bloggers. You will have to order the book to read exactly what I wrote but the top 5 mistakes I cover are:
1) Not engaging in conversations
2) Fear of Linking
3) Being long-winded
4) Not posting regularly and consistently
5) Not having a voice
I will touch on each of these in the next week (unless our new baby is born before then) and discuss more about these in detail.
Welcome to sremington.com
January 19, 2007
Hello and welcome to my personal site here. I actually have been looking forward to launching this site for some time.
A little about me and about this site… I currently am a full time stay at home dad of 5 kids. I have been blogging for roughly 3 years. I have developed a strong online presence in the field of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. I have been able to earn a supplemental income through online advertising and affiliate programs. It has been a great experience and we are still expanding.
But ever since I have been blogging it has been either about hunting, fishing, the outdoors, or about being a dad. This site will allow me to break through those boundaries and post on a number of topics I have been anxious to explore. This will be an experiment for me and a way to find a new groove.
Again, welcome!
